A rare tropical forest biome is getting its first tropical rainforest.
A new study has revealed that tigers and other wildlife live in a unique biome in southern Brazil, and it may be the first such biome in the world.
The study was led by researchers from the University of Sao Paulo and the Federal University of Paraíba.
They found that trees are found in a biome of a type called an aeternan, in which the plants have a different structure and a more varied plant life than those found in forested areas.
“It was one of the most important discoveries of my career,” said Prof. Bruno Fernandes of the University.
“I had no idea what this biome was, but it turns out it’s quite rare.”
