What Tiger Woods’ rehab could mean for Australia’s men’s tennis team
A few weeks after his injury, Tiger Woods is getting back to tennis.
He’ll be part of the Australian men’s team for the upcoming season.
Woods, the world number one, had to withdraw from a tournament in China because of a neck injury suffered during a practice match on Saturday.
He returned for the second leg of the ATP World Tour Finals on Monday, though he did not play.
“It’s been really tough, but the doctors told me it was probably best to have surgery,” he said on Sunday.
“I’m just so excited to be back playing tennis.
I’m looking forward to getting back out there.”
Woods had been in China since April, recovering from a season-ending neck injury, and had been preparing to take part in the tournament in Beijing.
“Obviously, you’re not going to win a match but you’re going to be able to play tennis,” he told reporters on Sunday when asked about his status.
“For the rest of my life, I will be able play tennis.”
Woodss said he was in good spirits after a tough few days.
“To have a chance to play in the World Tour finals, it’s going to put my mind at ease, but I’m excited for it to be over,” he added.
“The whole thing [about being injured] is what made it difficult for me.
But hopefully I’ll get better.”
